Cat grass is devoured daily in our home. When we first introduced it, the pot didn't even make it inside from garage unpacking before Kato started to mow it. He had such a look of bliss on his face! We usually keep a pot downstairs, and one upstairs, and Kato asks to go outside to go munch on it. It can also be kept inside without fuss.
Generally the fresh young tender shoots are the tastiest, especially with a bit of dew on them! So we periodically have to get a new seedling to freshen up the greens - seedlings are liked a lot better than planted seeds in our house.
Ava has also shown an instant attraction to cat grass, which provides some extra nutrients, some fibre, and can also be eaten medicinally by a cat...often to make them vomit. So yes, there are a couple downsides to cat grass in terms of cleaning, but don't be concerned if a cat vomits up grass, or has a 'hanger' where their poo forms around the stem of grass (and gets semi stuck - cut it off, don't pull as it could be long).
The benefits and delight in munching cat grass outweigh any cleaning annoyances! We found the healthiest-looking cat grass seedlings available at Melbourne's Poyntons nursery (they even have a couple resident nursery cats). Seedlings are also available at Bunnings. Seed growing packs can be ordered online from pet stores, although no interest was given to these by our cats - the only interest was in the growth nutrients/materials (not something they should get into)!
