Ava is loving her outdoor walks now that she is all fully vaccinated (she had been unwell and that delayed things). And harness training is going well - or is perhaps gone, it has been so easy!
Today we graduated her to a large size adult harness. Now, you'd think she is just a little pudding, which she sweetly is, but she is also a very long sausage. And this is the fit-issue we find with walking harnesses and long cats like Korats - the harnesses are simply not long enough in the piece that runs lengthways from neck down to the chest strap.
So while the new red harness is swimmingly big around her neck and chest (and it's on its tightest setting), the length is a much better fit. Her old black kitten harness was pinching her under the 'underarms' because of its shortness.
What can I say? Length has its problems. I know this only too well with my own trousers - they all have a mysterious downward force to them, because I'm too long for a standard cut. Unfortunately in cat-wear, there also seems to be only the standard sizing, with the thought that girth is all that needs to be accommodated. And again, unfortunately, Australia doesn't have any other walking harness options than these. I do know of one English person who makes harnesses for her Bengals, so that might be another thing I check out when money and curiosity abounds. Until then, this is a happy option - the slightly baggy fit seems comfortable, and a sloppy fit won't be dangerous as we always have our eagle eyes on when we walk our cats.
