Fluffy Stuffed Beds | Our first bed for Kato was similar to this one that I've just made for Ava. The only difference being it was more of a ring, and smaller. Too small when he grew - which gave rise to the massive blue bed that will hold about five cats down the cracks! The beauty of 'cracks' and snuggly mould-able material, is that a cat can burrow down into it and keep warm on those chilly days and nights. In fact, we have blankets laid out over pillows, so that the blankets dip down in between. |
Rug Burrows
Amazingly, it is not just a human that can make a 'burrow'. After a spectacularly cold night the other day, I came out to find the blankets in this shape. Kato 'caved-in' a blanket draped across some pillows to create a lovely burrow (in the part of the night he wasn't sleeping with us). The stick shows how deep it actually is. I thought I had a bargain on these blankets from an outlet shop - but as it turns out, they're currently in Coles for $15.
Caves/Tents
Then we have husband-man getting creative with Kato's sleeping arrangements. Pillows form the walls of this tent, while a free Jet-Star blanket is the roof. And yes, this is yet another stuffed bed that I made, more in keeping with Kato's adult size. When Kato chooses to use his tent, he may lie with face out checking on the goings-on. Or he may be scrunched up at the back - this is when it's cold. Surprisingly, if we stick our face inside the tent, the temperature is markedly warmer than outside. It gets even better if we put his heat pad in there. |
Pockets
Pockets usually come attached to cat trees, and anywhere a cat can curl up snugly, with fabric hugging their body, will be warm. This is the difference between kitten Kato, and adult Kato - the pocket still gets used! These photos also show the difference between warm summer weather and cold winter weather - notice how adult Kato is all 'puffy'. By boofing up his fur, he traps air, and this layer of air warms up with his body heat...much warmer!
Humans (of course!)
Every winter I get a cuddly cat. It's such a delight! This winter, Kato has decided that he can act like a baby kangaroo. He eyes-off our necklines, then dives in head first, scratches around to make the spot comfy, and pops out his head if he wants to breathe or see! Note to self - wear roomy jumpers!! |
