Lately Kato hasn't played with full intensity until we've offered his favourite game. On a side note, full intensity means get the toy at all costs, even if you go full pelt into the wall - with your HEAD. We had to go to the vet to check-out the little bald spot and make sure it was 'just' trauma that caused it!
Anyway, back to the current favourite game...it uses rubber tap washers from Bunnings for around $3.50 for five. There are multiple widths in the pack, so we choose the two fattest ones, as these roll the best. The rubber is durable, and has not yet been broken/bitten into bits. We have to be very careful of elastic bands around here, as if bitten, they open up from their ring shape and look like a 'worm'...and get eaten :( So like all toys, including plastic bags, use your discretion about leaving them around untended, but so far, these washers have been great.

We roll these down our hallway, through tunnels, toss them high in the air, or onto the tops of furniture. Kato races to beat them, swats them out of the air with football worthy leaps, or goes to hunt them down from the furniture hiding places. Sound is also very important. We rev him up by tapping them on the floor, or wriggling them in a rustling plastic bag. With several plastic bags along the route, he can also leap into the bags and lie in wait for the ring as in this picture.
With such an interactive cat, it's all about HOW we play. I've had a hamstring injury for some months now (try 7!), so I can't run around and squat down and pick things up too easily. Fortunately 'Daddy' can! You'll frequently see/hear both cat and man racing each other to get to the toy first. Cat can even take corners by jumping off the walls...sadly, man skids.
At high intensity, about 20 runs satisfies the uber-active cat (for one play session in the day!)
