Ava and Kato got a Cat-Crib for Christmas. Supposedly, this fits under any four legged chair. It's a great space saving idea, and also taps into a cat's love of cozy spacing. The crib material is soft and inviting, and the attachment concept is sound and seems sturdy.
We were very excited about this present, and awaited the day with glee! Ava and Kato obligingly checked it all out, as they love packages and bits and pieces, and any type of new construction. As you can see from the photos though, it didn't go quite as swimmingly as we had anticipated!

So, do we rate the Cat-Crib? Well I still really like the idea. So perhaps it is just our cats who are peculiar and don't LOVE it. Kato uses it sometimes. I would, however, question the idea that it fits under ANY chair, as small chairs like our dining chair did seem too small to tension it. As you can see, we made it work by using a convenient horizontal strut. So you may have to 'work it'.
The one thing I really don't like about the Cat-Crib are its assembly directions! Not even husband-man could puzzle them out. So to aid anyone else getting the Cat-Crib, I made a series of photos that show how to thread on the plastic 'clip' so that it lies the right way against a chair leg, and the right way for the strap to run through and end up with the velcro bit in place to actually grip something. The cat crib is an oversees purchase, but it had reasonably priced shipping to Australia: http://www.catcrib.com/

One further update - the Cat Crib people sent me this link to help attach their hammock to chairs with skinny legs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btztc_5pVlY
Update 21/5/14: Our chair with the hammock has been moved downstairs to our study. It has suddenly become VERY POPULAR with little Ava, who has been keeping husband-man company on his recent all nighters (I had Kato keeping me company in bed!). The study downstairs is cold in winter, so we have a portable heater there. At about the same height as the hammock...you fill in the blanks!!!
