Every cat is different. And we have had a few little challenges along the way.
The most recent with Ava was anticipated though, as all kittens go through teething...and that means they NEED to chew. Ava isn't chewing our phone charging cords to spite us. They are just a very nice size, with a lovely chewey texture. So we have re-homed the phone charging station to a place with a close-able door. And I found a piece of rubber tubing from a jewellery supply shop that is pretty close in size and texture. I tied the substitute onto a dining chair (close to where the phones were originally being charged). And Ava likes it a lot - I have to check it frequently to chop off the ends that are close to being chewed off, as I don't want them swallowed! I have also given her a piece of millinery wire - for some reason, both Kato and Ava like to chew wire! And of course she has lots of toys to chop into and her evening boney meal - this week it is a rabbit, cut into 12 pieces.
A plastic cover for the base of the cat tree The most recent with Ava was anticipated though, as all kittens go through teething...and that means they NEED to chew. And that leads to Ava's unique predilection for dragging her meat, or bit of carcass, into the cat tree to eat there. I have no problems that Kato likes to drag his off the dinner plate, to eat off the floor, because I can clean the floor. And I clean the floor up to four times a day. But the furry cat tree covering is a different story. And there's really no changing this eating preference - I did try by repeatedly dragging the meal back to the floor. Ava was more persistent than me.
So, I voiced my need for a plastic (cleanable!) cover, and husband-man cleverly came up with a desk protector from Officeworks. He cut out some indentations for the posts, and Wella!
Ava suddenly doesn't WANT to eat there!! Or at least all the time. She has just recently ventured her meal onto it. And that's fine. Because I can clean it.
Kato made a cubby! (I'm not pleased) So, I voiced my need for a plastic (cleanable!) cover, and husband-man cleverly came up with a desk protector from Officeworks. He cut out some indentations for the posts, and Wella!

Now, before we got Ava as a playmate, Kato got up to some mischief!
I came home one day to a pile of shredded 'straw' on the floor next to our spare bed, which rests vertically against the wall. And a hole in the bottom of the bed. And a pair of EYES in the that hole!! Kato had made a lovely cubby.
I fixed this with good old Duct Tape. It worked. For a while. But the 'straw' base covering was just irresistible. It made such a nice crackly sound and was so satisfying to shred.
So I added two fitted sheets, cutting holes for the bed legs. This also worked. For a time. And then AVA found that there was lovely straw poking out of the sheet around the bed legs. So we now have Duct Tape taping closed the sheet at the bed legs and covering any tempting little strand of poking out straw. Currently, I am winning!
